The New Yorker x
Crystal Cruises
The New Yorker’s marketing team approached me with the problem of their client’s ads not performing well. I provided the solution that the creative could be updated to reflect the demographic of Crystal Cruise’s buyers, and retain the visual integrity found in The New Yorker. I art directed a strategy to replace the glossy, sensual photography driven ads (that are well suited for other books like Conde Nast Traveler and Vogue) with illustrated maps that describe key excursions on different cruise lines of Crystal Cruises. The client loved the idea, and bonus––I was chosen as the illustrator for the ads.
Below are the maps that have lived in the print editions of The New Yorker from 2019-2020.
